Title:Trusted Execution Environments Basics and Adoptions

Abstract:

A Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) is a secure and isolated environment within a computer system or microprocessor that ensures confidentiality and integrity when executing sensitive code and safeguarding sensitive data. TEEs are designed to counter various threats, including malware and unauthorized access. This presentation will use Intel SGX as an example to illustrate the fundamentals of TEEs, covering hardware design, side-channel attacks, and the utilization of Intel SGX. Additionally, we will explore a TEE-assisted privacy-preserving decision tree training and inference to demonstrate the general adoption of TEEs.

Presenter's Bio:

Dr. Shujie Cui is a Lecturer at Monash University's Faculty of Information Technology. She earned her PhD from the University of Auckland in 2019. Prior to joining Monash University, she served as a Post-Doctoral researcher in the Large-Scale Data & Systems (LSDS) group within the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, UK. Her primary research interests encompass applied cryptography, information security in cloud computing and distributed systems, trusted execution environments, side-channel attacks, and privacy-preserving machine learning.
